Featured Art Exhibits:

#2 Schlomer Haus Gallery (2128 Market St):

Schlomer Haus Gallery is pleased to present Passing Through The Soft Storm, the debut solo exhibition from abstract-figurative painter Adam Baker.  This series of oils is inspired by the notion of travel and the separation of self that comes with voyaging into the unknown.

#3 The Academy (2166 Market St):

The Academy is proud to participate once again in Castro Art Walk, a monthly event every first Friday that brings the artistic spirit of the Castro neighborhood to life. This month is the premiere of "Subject Object Setting," our new showcase curated by Baylee Lewis Van.

#4 Harvey Milk Photo Center (50 Scott St):

The SFMTA Photo Dept. & Archive holds one of the largest collections of images focused on San Francisco’s transportation system. With images dating back 120 years, a nearly unbroken lineage of photographers working for public and private transit operations have documented the ever-changing ways in which San Franciscans get around the city.

On display are 18 artists from across the globe: Chile, Nepal, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Israel, Iceland, Ukraine, Japan and others.

#10 Welcome Castro (525 Castro St):

Colette Hannahan - I’ve made art pretty much my whole life, but didn’t fully dive in until my mid-30s. By then, I’d had over 40 jobs. I’ve delivered mail at a retreat center in the Hudson Valley, sold knives kitchen to kitchen in St. Paul, ran a service-learning program for teens in Portland, taught art and yoga to adults with disabilities in Chicago, mentored teens at a boarding school in New Mexico, and was a project coordinator for an arts nonprofit that supported artists with life-threatening illnesses in San Francisco.

I like to see my paintings as toasts to the moments that cause me to look up and slow down.

#11 Ruby’s Clay Studio and Gallery (552A Noe St):

Celebrating artists: Reiko Takahashi, Anna Payden, Rachel Cox, Gary Peden, Mack Dudley, Vicki Kleben, Zack Conquer, Mary Celojko, Liz Dembski, Belinda Hahn, Mike Roche, Kathy Lin, Judi Mozessen, Grace Alexander, Terrie Raphel, Liz Worthy, Dan Salazar, Etsuko Bram, Beth Gabow, Claudia McKenzie, Anelise Dandler.

Raffle for a gift certificate for artwork by studio artists. Drawing is 6pm and 7pm.

#12 MAG Galleries (3931 18th St):

WORD: Art from the Printed Word by Byron B. Kim, Mario Laplante, Katie Murken.  These artists use bibles, food coupons, telephone books, the New York Times and other printed words as the foundation for their art.

#13 ArtGasm (2352 Market St):

San Francisco’s Castro art-crawls to ArtGasm Friday January 5th, 5-9p. Gaze in wonder, enjoy nibblies & drinkies, and buy from over 60+ artworks from fifteen established and emerging artists. In Latino/a cultures a child transitioning to adulthood—often on their fifteenth birthday—is celebrated by their families with a party, so for our quinceañera, we likewise lift up these fifteen creative art souls.
