Born in poverty of South West Townships (SoWeTo), Splash inner world and his perception of it contrast his outer surroundings.  His love and appreciation for the people of Soweto shines bright through his work. His paintings exude warmth, subtle humor and empathy.

Schlomer Haus Gallery (2128 Market St): ON VIEW: What Remains

Debris from SF’s 2023 Pride Parade was transformed into original works of art – with 100% of the proceeds going to support  Queer LifeSpace.

MAG Galleries (3931 18th St): The three artists in CHANGED INTENTIONS, use materials not normally intended for the creation of art.  Bussie Parker Kehoe uses rubberlike masses of dried, house paint found at the bottom of paint cans, Denise Laws up-cycles discarded, consumer-good packaging with reflective or stained surfaces and Sarah Smith repurposes leftover construction materials which she surfaces with hydrocal.  The artists have created beautiful objects whose materiality represents the possibility and hope of recycling.

Welcome Castro (525 Castro St):

Artist: Katie Gilmartin

I valiantly tried to embody the anguished suffering artist, but chronic backsliding forced me to resign myself to a life of delight, abundance, and gusto. My checkered past includes stints as a buoyant union organizer, bona fide sex researcher, and deeply engaged college professor. I attended Oberlin College and Yale Graduate School, then for over a decade taught cultural studies with an emphasis on the histories of gender and sexuality. On an urgent quest to relocate pleasure, I took up printmaking and became utterly smitten with the medium as art and as craft. In 2000 I surrendered my academic life to assume care of Chrysalis Print Studio, where I now teach linocut and monotype classes. Along the way I founded City Art Cooperative Gallery, a thriving artspace on Valencia Street, and the Queer Ancestors Project, which is devoted to forging sturdy relationships between young LGBTQ people and their ancestors.

Harvey Milk Photo Center (50 Scott St):  Our annual Member, Staff & Volunteer Show portrays the current look at what is being created in our darkrooms and digital lab here at the Harvey Milk Photo Center, by our members, staff and volunteers.  This exciting exhibit is showcasing each photographers chosen and personal best. It has been curated by the staff, members and our generous volunteers and encompasses a wide and exciting range of subject matter.

Headprint Studio Castro (4327 18th St):  Our current featured artist, Mike Marcus, is a gay printmaker who focuses on queer visibility in his work. He uses a combination of linocut and monotype printmaking techniques, combined high contrast colors and inks. His current body of work is exploring the connection between sexuality, intimacy, and sobriety.

… and more!

See all of you tonight!
